We're going to D.C. ! ! !

In April, the school I work for announced its calendar for 2008-09. They have scheduled a "fall break" Oct. 13-17 (plus the weekends on both ends). What a great idea! No one vacations in the middle of October so Rod and I figured we would take advantage of it. He will take vacation time and we're doing something really special -- you know, SPLURGING!! Plus, in anticipation of our 30th anniversary next February, we are counting it as our anniversary gift to each other. The last 29 (except for #15 when we went to Disneyland), have been almost non-existent as far as celebrating. (We are so not the romantics!) After not too much deliberation, we decided to go to Washington, D.C. He spent several hours there about 5 years ago while on a business trip but I have never been. Then a few weeks later, brother Martin called and said he and Sybil would be moving back to DC for his work. They had lived there previously so know the area well. Now we'll have our own personal tour guides!!

In checking for accomodations, we found what we feel is a good vacation package deal. For about $2300 we get round-trip flight from Tucson to DC on Delta, 7 night stay at Radisson in Arlington, VA (where Martin will be living), and a mid-size rental car for the week. We'll use the Metro for the DC area and the car for longer sightseeing road trips. We figured if we're staying a whole week, we want a place that has a comfortable bed instead of those found in the cheaper hotels we usually stay in. Our old bodies can't handle their hard beds more than one night and Radisson has SleepNumber beds like ours at home. We'll leave Saturday, Oct. 11 - 6:00 AM - and arrive in DC at 4:00 PM. We return the following Saturday at 5:00 PM and arrive in Tucson at 9:00 PM. Each way we have about a 40 minute layover/plane change in Salt Lake. Too bad it isn't long enough that we could run and visit Luan and Lori.


I am so excited to go!!!

Of course, one of those sidetrips will be to

attend the Washington, DC Temple.
