Appetite like a bird?

Ever heard that expression when referring to someone who eats very little? Well, if you don't already know, I've got a news flash for you. Birds are voracious eaters. I filled one of our bird feeders with a #10 can (that's the big, feed-an-army size) full of birdseed on Tuesday and by Thursday it was completely empty. Granted, we do have a bizillion birds here, but I would hope it to last at least a week. At the hummingbird feeder in addition to the little guys, we also get wrens, flycatchers, orioles (bright yellow), and bats (at night) feeding at it.
